Emoticons highlight Mediatheque 2017

The best days in the life of a student are no doubt the college days. The students have the freedom to enjoy their youth before they step into the world full of responsibilities. The college days ensure to educate the youth as well as provide them with the freedom of living their life to the fullest.

College festivals are a great way to create memories which will last a lifetime. No student will be ready to trade their festival memories even for the most precious thing in the world. The students of the Mass Media department of S. K. Somaiya College of Arts, Science and Commerce recently organized their annual media festival, Mediatheque. The two-day festival was scheduled on the 9th and 10th January 2017 at the prodigious campus of Somaiya Vidyavihar.

Like any other college, the fest had a theme. Mediatheque incorporated 'Emoticons' as the theme for the festival. The theme was decided after keeping in mind the increased dependence to constantly stay in touch with our family and friends. Emoticons have become a great way to express our emotions in an apt way. Emojis are the latest trend that strikes the chords of the youth and is one of the contemporary vogues in the new media. ‘Planet Emoticons…Unfolding Emotions’ was the tagline of Mediatheque 2017.

Mediatheque’s distinct theme attracted over 20 colleges from all over Mumbai. The events at Mediatheque planned to showcase excellence in the field of advertising, journalism, film, photography and performing arts. There were nearly 1500 students who attended the festival and participated in the events which were planned according to the theme.

The participants for the events such as journalism, photography, short-film making, radio jockeying, dance and fashion show were great in number. The ambitiously creative events were judged by some of the great personalities of the media industry like Bharat Dabholkar, RJ Mantra, Abhishek Das, Vikas Grover, Parag Mehta and Shantanu Tungare.

The festival was sponsored by well-known brands such as Larsen and Toubro, Godrej Interio, Herbolent, Corporation Bank, PentaBleu, Spoyl, Serenity Skies, atkt.in, Maharashtra Times and Insta Blood.

Speaking on the occasion of the commencement of the festival, Dr Sangita Kohli, Principal S. K. Somaiya Degree College said that she feels really proud to have all the students from different colleges here at Somaiya. She also praised the team by saying that they've worked hard to make the festival a grand success.  The best college award was won by the Contingent Rockstars of Thakur College.

The Mass Media department was thoroughly vivacious on both the days of the festival and had decorated the college building with emoticons. All in all, Mediatheque was not only was a two-day festival but a festival in which the love, hard work and commitment were seen from every single team member. The team hopes to take the festival to greater heights next year.
