How Modern Dating Actually Goes

In a world where social media sites that have revolutionized our entire existence, it is no surprise that this influence has spread to the world of dating as well. There are a few clear-cut steps of dating that take place these days, none of them ending too well. If you are lucky, you will be one of the few who gets to be part of a couple that actually works and is actually dating. But for most of us, this is how it goes:

The Attraction

Like every love story to have ever existed, this too begins with one of the people finding the other attractive. However, since we are living in a surreal world, the rules have changed. You might see this person on Tinder, through a friend’s Snapchat story or through some daily Facebook stalking. It doesn’t really matter how, but you want something to happen with that person.

The ‘Let’s give it a chance’

There might be a person who is acting as the mediator between you and your crush and they will try to set you both up. They will try to convince your crush to go out with you and ‘see where it could lead’ or show them a picture of you to see if they are interested. If its the Tinder that is deciding your dating life, maybe you just think of going for it and swipe right.

The Date

This is the only part of the modern dating process that is even remotely like the traditional one that has existed for so long. The two interested parties meet somewhere and get to know each other. Maybe it’s over coffee or dinner, but as long as you aren’t attached to your phone your fingertips, this is the only normal part.

The Constant Communication

The two of you will now begin to be in touch with each other all the time over social media. Even though you might not even meet after the initial first date, you will be in constant virtual communication. Their texts and snaps will become the highlights of your day. You might start calling each other by cute nick names and might even start sexting. The point is, that it’s all virtual.

The ‘I’m not looking for something serious’

After a small amount of time, usually a few weeks/months, one of you will get bored of the other. You will suddenly come to the realization, with the help of your friends of course, that you never wanted anything serious. It’s most likely that one of them told you that there are plenty of sea in the fish and that you can try for so many others. You will ghost out on the other person or tell them something along the lines that you were not looking for a serious relationship.

This is sadly how most of the ‘relationships’ these days end before the people involved look for the next person to ‘date’. Stop being so hasty and fickle minded and stop wasting someone else’s time. For your own good and the good of society, let’s go back to what dating really was…
